I promised earlier that at some point, the optimism would return, and as it turned out, it only took a few hours. Spurs followed up their undeserved draw against us with an even more undeserved win over Liverpool in the late kick off, and suddenly the gap doesn’t seem quite so big.
A win at home to United next week and suddenly it would all look a bit better, and with them having a tough trip to Celtic midweek while we have our easiest match of a group we’ve practically qualified from, a good result is perfectly possible.
We need to win games, and our rivals need to drop points. But since we’re playing many of them soon, that seems like a distinct possibility. After all, we’ve actually played well in the big games this season, it’s the supposed ‘easy wins’ that have gone awry.
So it turns out my glass is still half full after all. How’s yours?
